Gasovski misled family about trip: police

Police are investigating whether slain NSW man John Gasovski told his family he was going on a business trip as a cover for a mystery trip south.

Homicide detectives are investigating whether murder victim John Gasovski told his family he was going to Canberra for business as a cover for what would become a fatal trip to NSW's Illawarra region.

The father of four's body was found dumped in bushland at Jamberoo Mountain Lookout, in the Budderoo National Park, west of Kiama on Sunday morning.

Police believe Mr Gasovski was murdered in an execution-style slaying not long before a ranger found his body.

The 48-year-old from Arncliffe in Sydney's south had a gunshot wound to the head.

Mr Gasovski told his family he was travelling to Canberra for a business trip on June 9.

But his worried family reported him missing on June 12 after he failed to return home.

A police spokesman confirmed detectives were investigating any links Mr Gasovski, whose company JSJ Communications collapsed last year, had with organised crime.

It is understood police are also exploring the possibility Mr Gasovski didn't go to Canberra but told his family that as a cover.

Mr Gasovski's wife, Jackie Gasovski, also worked for JSJ Communications, according to her Facebook profile.

JSJ Communications was placed into liquidation in June 2013 and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) issued a note to deregister the firm.

Shocked family and friends posted tributes to Mr Gasovski on social media, including one of his daughters.

"RIP dad love you so much," she wrote.

Friend Ves Skubevska wrote "RIP John ... you will be sadly missed."
