Gavrilova into Hong Kong tennis quarters

Australian eighth seed Daria Gavrilova has won a rain-interrupted second-round match at the Hong Kong Open, beating Czech player Katerina Siniakova 6-2 7-5.

Eighth-seeded Australian Daria Gavrilova has reached the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open, completing a rain-interrupted second-round match with a 6-2 7-5 win over Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic.

On court after rain interrupted play on Wednesday, Gavrilova finished off a tight second set to earn a last-eight berth against top seed and Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber or American Louisa Chirico.

In other second-round results, Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic beat Nao Hibino of Japan 7-6 (7-5) 6-2, and Wang Qiang of China advanced with third seed Johanna Konta of Britain having to withdraw.
