More than 100 people have rallied in support of marriage equality in Brisbane's bayside, where a federal Liberal MP has promised to vote in line with his electorate's verdict on same-sex marriage.
Organiser Adele Fisher said the rally at Raby Bay Harbour Park was a success but many were disappointed Bowman MP Andrew Laming was a no-show.
The event was organised to coincide with Mr Laming's community survey on same-sex marriage, which will determine which way he'll vote if there's a conscience vote on the issue.
"There was disappointment in the crowd that Andrew Laming was unable to attend at the last minute due to work commitments," Ms Fisher said.
She said people were urged to fill out Mr Laming's survey to ensure it reflected the views of the Redlands community.
"Statistically speaking, the majority of Australians support marriage equality so I can't see why Redlands would be any different," Ms Fisher said.
Cabinet minister Christopher Pyne on Saturday indicated a vote should be held later this year and said the US Supreme Court's ruling on Friday that marriage equality is a nationwide right was "fascinating".
