Geelong AFL stars Selwood, Johnson sore

Geelong coach Chris Scott says AFL stars Joel Selwood and Steve Johnson are dealing with minor niggles, but they're manageable.

Geelong stars Joel Selwood and Steve Johnson are playing through pain, but coach Chris Scott says they're manageable niggles.

Scott revealed on Tuesday that Selwood had been sore during the past few weeks, then suffered a hamstring knock in the AFL side's nine-point win over Essendon on Friday night.

But the Cats captain has since recovered well and, according to Scott, is already in better shape than he was at the same time last week.

Given the luxury of a nine-day break before Sunday's match against Western Bulldogs, it's unlikely Selwood will be rested.

"I don't think there'll be too many problems," Scott said.

"He went into the game (against Essendon) a little bit sore, not much worse than he's been in previous weeks.

"He got a knock really early in the game to his hamstring, which made him even sorer, and he struggled through it a little bit.

"He was still a really influential player, I thought. But he'll be better this week."

Johnson has also been "a little bit sore", according to Scott.

"He missed a game a couple of weeks ago ... there's a little bit of a lack of continuity with the suspension as well," Scott said.

"He's a victim of his own standards as well, because he was absolutely outstanding for the first five weeks of the season."

Scott said the club and Johnson were "extremely confident" he would return to his scintillating form.

Mathew Stokes remains sidelined due to an ankle injury, while Scott said Harry Taylor "feels really confident he'll be better this week" after returning from a knee injury against the Bombers.
