German double Olympic champion Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle has been suspended for two years for doping at the Winter Olympics in February, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) says.
Sachenbacher-Stehle, who won cross-country Olympic gold in 2002 and 2010 before switching to biathlon, "committed an in-competition doping offence at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games", the IBU's anti-doping hearing panel said in a statement on Wednesday.
Her two-year suspension will be counted from February 17, 2014, it added.
The 33-year-old had tested positive for methylhexanamine, a stimulant contained in dietary supplements, following the biathlon mass start on February 17, in which she finished fourth.
Sachenbacher-Stehle now has 21 days to appeal the decision to the Lausanne-based Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the IBU said.
The German was a 2003 world champion and nabbed two Olympic golds in Salt Lake City and in Vancouver in cross-country team events before she took up biathlon in the 2012-2013 season.
