German reward for unsolved NSW murder

German prosecutors are offering a $15,000 reward for any information that will solve the death of backpacker Simone Strobel in northern NSW.

German authorities have put up a 10,000 euro ($A15,000) reward for information to solve the nine-year-old murder case involving a young backpacker.

German Simone Strobel, 25, was travelling in Australia with her boyfriend, Tobias Suckfuell, when she disappeared from a caravan park in Lismore, northern NSW, on February 11, 2005.

Mr Suckfuell later reported his girlfriend missing.

Ms Strobel's naked body was found covered with palm fronds about 90 metres from her campsite on February 17.

Despite a coronial inquest and police investigation in Australia, the case remains unsolved.

Ahead of the ninth anniversary of Ms Strobel's death, German police are offering the financial reward for any information that can help solve the crime.

In a statement provided through NSW Police, the Bavarian Office of Criminal Investigations said there was no doubt Ms Strobel was the victim of a major crime.

German prosecutors opened their own homicide case following the death, with a prosecutor travelling to Australia, Japan and Great Britain as part of the investigation.

"But in spite of all the efforts it has not been possible so far to completely solve the death of Simone Strobel," the prosecutors' statement read.

German authorities want to hear from anyone who may now be privy to details relating to Ms Strobel's death.

Australians with information are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
