Germany, Australia create advisory group

Germany and Australia will look to further their diplomatic ties by creating a joint advisory group.

Germany and Australia have agreed to establish a joint advisory group to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations, the government in Berlin has announced.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Chancellor Angela Merkel agreed to establish the 15-member group to examine ways to build even closer ties between their two countries during the German leader's visit to Brisbane in November for the summit of the Group of 20 leading states.

The group's aim will be to help boost trade and investment between the two nations as well as promoting cultural links and scientific collaboration.

The advisory group, which includes representatives from across German and Australian political, business, cultural and scientific life, will hold its first meeting in Berlin in July before presenting a report to Merkel and Abbott later this year.
