Sunrise co-host David Koch has resigned on-air as chairman of the federal government's organ donation advisory council.

"I've got no choice but to resign from the post to actively counter the tripe dished out by a whole bunch of rich lobbyists that just talk and do nothing," he said on Wednesday morning.

Koch also took a swipe at Assistant Health Minister Fiona Nash as he announced he would leave his post at the Organ and Tissue Authority Advisory Council - telling her to "get a backbone".
