Families heading to court will be hit with higher fees despite the Senate disallowing a previous attempt by the government to do so.

The new charges for the Family Court include $1200 for a full divorce and $125 for a subpoena to be issued, up from $845 and $55 respectively.

Labor frontbencher Graham Perrett said it was a tax designed to "exploit people during their darkest days".
