Being competitive for only three quarters against a quality side is not acceptable to GWS Giants coach Leon Cameron and players could lose their spots as a result of a poor final term against Fremantle.

The Giants took on the second-placed Dockers in Perth on Sunday and put in a competitive showing for three quarters, but coughing up seven goals to two in the final term to lose by 76 points meant Cameron went home disappointed.

There were good signs for GWS with midfielder Toby Greene racking up 35 possessions, Jeremy Cameron regaining some form up forward with Adam Tomlinson and Lachie Whitfield combining for five goals as Callan Ward, Dylan Shiel and Devon Smith won plenty of ball.

However, what happened in the final quarter with Fremantle booting seven goals far too easily meant that Cameron left Perth with few positives.

"There's probably 18 or 19 of our players who played some good footy for three quarters of the game but those same 18 or 19 probably dropped away," Cameron said.

"Toby Greene had a fair bit of footy, Jeremy Cameron was really good. His leading patterns were fantastic and we understand he's been under a little bit of pressure just to produce some of that form from last year.

"There were a number of individuals that stood up when they had to. But they just dropped away for 20 minutes in the last quarter."

The Giants now take on the fourth-placed Geelong at home on Saturday night with key forward Jonathon Patton and Adam Treloar likely to return.

Tom Boyd, Jonathan Giles, Nathan Wilson, Sam Frost and Josh Hunt have been in strong NEAFL form putting pressure on those who didn't perform in the last quarter against Fremantle.

"If you'd blown the final siren at three-quarter-time, there wouldn't be any changes, the 22 were playing some really good footy. But they will just be disappointed with the last 25 minutes of footy," Cameron said.

"We have to regroup, we have a six-day break against the Cats next Saturday night, they're obviously in good form.

"And we play back home at Spotless Stadium and it's that time of the year when young sides in the competition have to keep on keeping on. We are no different but we want to be able to take it right up to Geelong next Saturday night."
