Giants AFL star low on confidence

Star GWS forward Jeremy Cameron must overcome a confidence crisis, says his AFL coach after the Sydney side was heavily beaten by Adelaide.

Star GWS forward Jeremy Cameron is very low on confidence, according to his coach who insists the Giants remain in credit for the year following a 68-point thrashing by Adelaide.

The Giants dropped to 4-11 after a poor all-round performance against a Crows team making a late finals charge.

The Giants' first 10 scoring shots at Spotless Stadium on Saturday were behinds and they didn't kick their first goal until the 12-minute mark of the second quarter.

They were just as wayward with their general disposal as Adelaide kicked 11.12 from turnovers.

Cameron, an All Australian representative last year, was barely sighted.

Continuing his lean run, he had just six touches, three marks and kicked 1.1.

He has had an injury-interrupted campaign stretching back to the pre-season, though his coach and namesake refused to use that as an excuse for his spearhead's declining productivity.

"Jeremy would be disappointed to blame fitness and we're not here to blame fitness at all," GWS coach Leon Cameron said.

"It's just confidence, He's going through a spell at the moment, where his confidence is probably really low.

"We've just got to keep working on the basics with Jeremy.

"He wants to get back where he was last year and the year before and we're confident that we can do that with him."

The coach was adamant his team have moved forward this season.

"When you're on a journey with a young side, you're always going to take a step backward at times, but we'll take two steps forward," he said.

"Up to round six or seven, we had probably three or four steps forward, then we had a couple of steps back.

"We've taken some gigantic steps forward in the last four or five weeks, but then we take a step back.

"Over the journey of the year, we're definitely ahead."
