Giants coach Julie Fitzgerald has recruited England international’s Jo Harten and Serena Guthrie for the club’s first season.
Guthrie joins the Giants after playing with the Northern Mystics in the ANZ Championship.
She says her Jamaican heritage has helped her career.
"My dad, I guess his Jamaican roots has probably given me a lot of athletic ability as well in terms of my jumping and my fitness," Guthrie said.
The Giants take on NSW rivals the Swifts on Saturday in the opening match of the competition.
“We are the new kids on the block and I’m sure that the Swifts are going to want to put their best foot forward,” Guthrie said.
“We are definitely going to push back and we want to be the best team in New South Wales.”
