Giants want Cameron to stay aggressive

Greater Western Sydney spearhead Jeremy Cameron has been working on his tackling technique during his suspension, but his coach wants the combative spearhead to maintain his aggression.

The 23-year-old missed the Giants' first four AFL games after being suspended for a high bump on Brisbane's Rhys Mathieson, which left the Lions player with a broken cheekbone.

Cameron, who has topped the Giants' goalkicking list in each of their first four seasons, returns to the side for Sunday's game with St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.

"He's got to maintain that aggressive edge," Giants coach Leon Cameron said.

"He's just got to understand that tackling and bumping are two different things.

"He knows that; we've worked on some of his technique but I definitely don't want him to lose that aggressive side."

Lack of match fitness looms as the big challenge for the key forward.

"He's had a good pre-season, obviously footy fitness wise it's going to be a bit tougher," Leon Cameron said.

"St Kilda play a really intense brand of footy. A great attacking side and also a very very good defensive side, so he's going to be blowing early.

"But we feel as though we've got enough work in him to make sure he can have an impact on the day.

"There are areas of Jeremy's game he has got to continue to work on. You don't play good defence against St Kilda, they will just absolutely carve you up and he has to buy into that."

The Giants will be looking for their first set of back-to-back wins and maiden away victory of the season after two home wins in Canberra and away losses at the SCG and MCG.

"This time last year we were 3-1 and in better form," Leon Cameron said.

"We've actually ground our way to more competitive results this year but in terms of ball movement and probably finishing off I think that's probably been a bit up and down."
