Gibbs bullish on Blues AFL opener

Carlton's Bryce Gibbs says he expects No.1 draft pick Jacob Weitering and captain Marc Murphy to play in their round one AFL date with Richmond.

Carlton are underdogs, underdone and under no illusions as to the scale of the task on Thursday night when they open the AFL season against Richmond.

The Blues are rank outsiders for their first match under new coach Brendan Bolton, but Bryce Gibbs says the new-look team - likely to feature No.1 draft pick Jacob Weitering and captain Marc Murphy - are more than capable of causing a surprise.

"No questions about it, we're going out there to win," Gibbs said on Monday morning.
