Gidgegannup fire downgraded to advice

Residents in Gidgegannup are breathing a sigh of relief after a bushfire was downgraded once again, authorities now saying there's no immediate danger.

A potentially life-threatening bushfire northeast of Perth has been downgraded again after favourable weather conditions assisted firefighting efforts.

An emergency warning had been issued earlier on Monday for eastern parts of Gidgegannup in the City of Swan, with homes on Mayo Road and Toodyay Road under threat.

But before midnight authorities downgraded the alert level to "advice", stating there was no longer a threat to lives or homes.

"But there is a lot of smoke in the area," the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said in a statement.

"Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes."

The fire is burning south of Toodyay Road and east of the Noble Falls Tavern, but is currently stationary.

More than 100 firefighters are battling the flames and working to build containment lines.

The fire was first reported at midday on Monday. The cause is unknown.
