Gidley hunts for Super League GF ring

Kurt Gidley once won an NRL premiership ring despite not playing in the decider, so he's eager to win a Super League equivalent with Warrington next month.

Kurt Gidley has no idea of the whereabouts of his NRL premiership ring, but will ensure the Super League equivalent has pride of place if he goes on to help Warrington win at Old Trafford next month.

The 34-year-old Australian playmaker was just breaking into the Newcastle Knights in 2001 and didn't feature when they stunned Parramatta in the grand final that year, but joyously joined in the celebrations without ever really feeling part of the occasion.

"I made my debut in '01 but it was only one game towards the end of the season," Gidley recalled.

"It was great to be part of grand final week and the celebrations but I didn't deserve to be in that team to be honest. I was only 19.

"I did get a ring but I don't even know where it is to be honest, it's packed away somewhere.

"This year I would claim it and I'd wear it proudly if we tick off the next two weeks in the right way."

Gidley spent the next 13 years striving without success for silverware before eventually making the decision to quit his beloved Knights for Super League.

He played in his first final last month after helping the Wolves reach Wembley where they lost to Hull in the Challenge Cup final before exacting some revenge by clinching the League Leaders' Shield.

That earned them a home semi-final against St Helens on Thursday and got them back on track for a third trip to Old Trafford, where they hope to win a first Super League title.
