Former prime minister Julia Gillard says she is too ill to attend the state funeral of her mentor Joan Kirner.
Victoria's first and only female premier will be farewelled at Williamstown Town Hall from 10am on Friday but Ms Gillard has come down with a bug.
"Devastated a sudden nasty bug means I will sadly miss Joan's funeral. Sending much love to the Kirner family. JG," she tweeted.
