Two young girls have suffered burns after methylated spirits from a fondue set reportedly spilled and ignited at their south Sydney home.

The five and seven-year-old were injured in the small fire at the Yowie Bay home on Sunday evening, after the fondue set reportedly fell over catching alight the tablecloth.

The seven-year-old suffered burns to her arms, chest and face and is at Sutherland Hospital, while the five-year-old was taken to Sydney Children's hospital with burns to her arms, chest and thighs.

Both girls are stable, an ambulance spokesman said on Monday.
