Glamorgan hit by Khawaja, Burns T20 exits

Training commitments and a back injury mean Australia's Usman Khawaja and Joe Burns will miss Glamorgan's last group games in the T20 Blast league.

Welsh side Glamorgan's hopes in the T20 Blast competition have been hit by the early departures of Australian pair Usman Khawaja and Joe Burns.

Test batsman Khawaja had been due to miss one match to attend a training camp before Australia A's tour of India but the left-hander will now miss Glamorgan's final six group games.

Khawaja will return to Australia following Friday's home game against Gloucestershire in the English and Welsh competition, while Burns has played his last game for Glamorgan after suffering a back injury.

"It's disappointing Usman and Joe will have to finish their stints at Glamorgan early," chief executive Hugh Morris told the club website.

"Both players have been fantastic for the dressing room and Usman in particular has shown himself to be a world-class batsman with his performances."

The departures of Khawaja and Burns comes on the back of the loss of Australian batsman Shaun Marsh, who suffered shoulder ligament damage last month and was ruled out for the rest of season.

Glamorgan are sixth in the Blast South Group after their four-wicket win at Surrey on Tuesday.
