Glasby shows who's boss with stellar 2017

Melbourne prop Tim Glasby ensured he would forever be remembered as an NRL premiership winner and Queensland State of Origin representative in 2017.

Never again will anyone ask who Tim Glasby is.

The Melbourne prop capped off a stellar season on Sunday night by forming part of the Storm pack that shut down North Queensland wrecking-ball Jason Taumalolo and claimed the NRL title.

In the past 12 months Glasby has made his State of Origin debut, won a maiden NRL premiership and made his name as one of the best defensive players in Melbourne's sturdy 17.

Not bad for a bloke who was labelled "Tim Who" on the front page of Sydney newspapers when he was selected for Queensland in June.

"Mate, I just laugh it off," he said.

"I think it's funny. It is what it is, it was part of the Origin banter.

"I think a lot was said at the time. It hasn't served as motivation for me in any way. I've just been doing my job and going about it the best we can.

"Obviously it was in an Origin series it was a huge occasion for myself, and obviously with the Storm I want to win a premiership and play well with my mates. That's why I work hard."

Glasby's incredible year began a month early last December when partner Casey gave birth to their first son Parker.

Since then the 28-year-old was the oldest of eight debutants for the Maroons this year, before rounding out the year in the most dominant premiership-winning team of the NRL era.

"You don't really expect things like this to happen - I've had the best 12 months," he said.

"My Queensland debut was a dream come true and then to win a series at Suncorp was just another high altogether.

"To be honest there have been times where I thought maybe the Origin boat has sailed on me. You always hope but you think maybe they will look for younger blokes over me.

"But winning a premiership is something you want to do every year. I suppose so, but like I said I'm just so grateful I managed to do this and hopefully I can go again next year."
