Australia's men's 4x100m freestyle relay team have won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The quartet of Tommaso D'Orsogna, Matt Abood, James Magnussen and Cameron McEvoy defended the nation's title from Delhi 2010 in Friday night's final, winning in a Games record time of three minutes and 13.44 seconds.

South Africa (3:15.17) were second with England (3:16.37) in third.

The South Africans had a healthy lead halfway through the relay before world champion Magnussen and national champion McEvoy reeled in the margin with impressive closing legs.

It was Australia's fourth gold medal of the night while McEvoy claimed his second after taking second in the men's 200m freestyle final.
