Gleason co-star Sheila MacRae dies

Sheila MacRae, who played Alice Kramden, the wife of Jackie Gleason's famous Honeymooners character, has died in New Jersey at the age of 93.

Actress Sheila MacRae, who played Alice Kramden in The Jackie Gleason Show in the 1960s, has died at the age of 93.

The British-born actress was the second woman to play the long-suffering wife of Gleason's character, Ralph Kramden. Audrey Meadows had earlier played the role in Gleason's hit 1950s comedy series The Honeymooners.

MacRae died on Friday in a New Jersey nursing home.

An accomplished all-round entertainer, MacRae toured nightclubs as one half of an act she formed with her actor/singer husband Gordon MacRae.

The couple, who divorced in 1967, had four children. Their actress daughter Meredith MacRae lost her battle with brain cancer in 2000, aged 56.

Sheila MacRae was born in London, but made her home New York as a child.
