Respected retired judge Murray Gleeson is set to deliver his ICAC roadmap to the NSW government following a high-profile review of the embattled watchdog's ambit.

A question mark has hung over the future of the NSW anti-corruption body since April, when the High Court delivered a damaging finding that the commission had acted outside its powers when it investigated top NSW prosecutor Margaret Cunneen SC over allegations relating to her behaviour as a private citizen.

That decision prompted Premier Mike Baird to move a wide-ranging review of the ICAC's powers, conducted by a panel of experts that included Bruce McClintock SC, who ran the last major review of the ICAC Act in 2005, and led by Mr Gleeson, the former High Court Chief Justice.

Mr Gleeson and his panel were asked to consider any laws necessary to provide ICAC with the powers it needed to expose serious or systemic corruption, and whether any limits or enhancements should be applied to those powers.

The Gleeson report is due to be handed up on Friday but is not expected to be made public until next week, when the Baird government is likely to outline its response.
