Global healthcare firm brings 120 Vic jobs

Global healthcare company Fresenius Kabi is creating a pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution centre, creating 120 jobs in Victoria.

A global healthcare company will establish a manufacturing centre in Melbourne, creating 120 jobs.

Fresenius Kabi Australia is developing a $47 million pharmaceutical manufacturing facility and distribution centre, creating jobs in advanced manufacturing and for highly qualified manufacturing operators, engineers and quality specialists.

The new centre is being built with the help of a grant from the Victorian state government and set for completion in 2015.

Premier Denis Napthine said the facility will be a boon for the healthcare sector and the Victorian economy, but would not disclose the state's financial contribution.

"This new facility represents a significant vote of confidence in Victoria's healthcare industry and the state economy," he said.

The government assisted Fresenius to set up shop in Victoria using its $55 million Victoria's Technology Plan for the Future - Biotechnology.

Once built, the centre will have the capability to operate 24 hours a day to meet hospital demand.

Fresenius supplies intravenous therapies to Australian hospitals and clinics for use in surgery, emergency departments and intensive care.
