A study into small businesses in Australia says more than 40 per cent of respondents have negative future expectations of the market.
The survey by RMIT University, in conjunction with accountancy firm MGI, also shows family businesses are concerned with the level of federal government support they receive, selecting an appropriate successor, as well as security in retirement.
One of the report's authors, Professor Kosmas Smyrnios, says family businesses make up about 70 per cent of all privately-owned businesses in the country.
He's speaking to Ildi Amon about the research findings.
