One of Australia's most successful cafe brands, Gloria Jean's Coffees, is set to ramp up its expansion into China.

Retail Food Group, which brought the coffee chain in 2014, has set up a joint venture designed to expand the Gloria Jean's brand within China.

The company will partner with Chinese restaurant group GouBuLi, which is already operating two Gloria Jean's stores.

Retail Food Group will hold 20 per cent of the joint venture, which will initially include eight outlets, with the remainder held by GouBuLi's subsidiary Tian Jin Sen Yong Tai Co.

Gloria Jean's currently operates 800 outlets in more than 40 countries, including 400 in Australia.

Retail Food Group bought the company from owner Nabi Saleh for $163 million in October.

Retail Food Group closed four cents, or 0.69 per cent, higher at $5.87.
