Gloria Jean's to take to the streets

After a strong year, the company behind Gloria Jean's is planning 50 drive-through coffee outlets across Australia.

Drive-through versions of Gloria Jean's coffee shops will be rolled out across the nation.

Hot on the heels of a solid leap in full-year underlying profit, the company behind Gloria Jean's is planning a string of major investments to further cash in on the world's $8.8 billion coffee and allied beverages market.

Retail Food Group will buy adjoining properties on the Gold Coast for its global headquarters.

It will also commission up to three international coffee roasting facilities and distribution hubs in 2016 to complement existing facilities in Australia, New Zealand and North America.

And after trialling three drive-through coffee outlets in Queensland and NSW, it is looking to roll them out at more than 50 sites nationally, with 25 up and running by the end of 2016.

The company, which owns a string of food and coffee shop brands including Brumby's and Crust Pizza, bought Gloria Jean's Coffees for $163.5 million in 2014.

On Thursday, at its annual general meeting, RFG outlined a strong start to fiscal 2016, with inroads into the Malaysian, Turkish and Chinese markets.

It reiterated expectations of a 25 per cent rise in underlying first half profit, with a 20 per cent increase forecast for the full year.

Managing director Tony Alford described fiscal 2015 as a remarkable and momentous period for the company.

"Supported by the advancement and execution of numerous organic initiatives, RFG has established a veritable suite of revenue drivers able to deliver enhanced and sustainable shareholder outcomes all of which underpin long term growth," he told shareholders.

RFG's shares closed three cents higher at $4.17.
