General Motors is recalling more than 56,000 Saturns for problematic gear shift cables, which it warned could break, preventing drivers from shifting gears.
GM's newest recall, coming as the company faces lawsuits over faulty ignition problems in millions of cars, affects 2007 and 2008 Saturn Aura mid-sized sedans with automatic transmissions.
GM said on Tuesday that the transmission shift cable in the cars "may fracture at any time", preventing a driver from changing gears and opening up the possibility of accidents.
GM will replace the cables free of charge.
The largest US carmaker is facing lawsuits potentially costing it billions of dollars over problem ignitions installed in millions of vehicles in the 2000s.
Despite knowing about the problem as early as 2001, GM only acted on it this year after dozens and possibly hundreds of accidents tied to the problem left at least 13 dead.
