Fiery Essendon defender Brendon Goddard says he let things boil over during an AFL match and he's working on controlling his temper.

Commentators ripped into the Bombers veteran for some angry conversations with teammates during their Anzac Day loss, but Goddard also received strong support from coach John Worsfold.

"I don't understand the hysteria around it, but I take responsibility for that and I've said at different times, I let things boil over - I need to control it, it's something I'm working on," Goddard told RSN.
