Gods of Egypt to film in Sydney

Gerard Butler and Geoffrey Rush are set to film new epic Gods of Egypt in Sydney from March.

NSW has landed production for a Hollywood epic starring Gerard Butler and Geoffrey Rush.

Gods of Egypt will start filming in Sydney late next month, Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner announced on Monday.

"Securing the production of Gods of Egypt for NSW will create an estimated 400 jobs in the local film industry and contribute around $75 million in direct production expenditure to the NSW economy," Mr Stoner said.

Australian writer, producer and director Alex Proyas, whose previous credits include Dark City and I, Robot, will make the new film.

Gods of Egypt comes to NSW on the heels of Angelina Jolie's Unbroken.
