Gold Coast bus attack video goes viral

A violent attack on an elderly Indigenous man on a Gold Coast bus has been captured on video, sparking a social media backlash.

The latest case of Australian bus commuters acting atrociously has gone viral on social media after being captured on a mobile phone.

The video shows two young women looking as if they are dressed for the races punching, kicking and spitting on an elderly Indigenous man.

Shocked commuters look on as the women scream and punch the man, who is seen cowering against a window.

"Oh bro we're in Abo land," one of the women is heard saying.

Some of the passengers yell at them to "leave the poor man alone".

Another male passenger intervenes and manages to force them off the bus, throwing their handbag after them.

Queensland Police told AAP they are trying to identify the women.

It's not the first time mobile phone footage of bad behaviour on buses has gone viral.

In June NSW Police charged a 55-year-old NSW woman after she was caught on camera racially vilifying an Asian schoolboy on a bus in Burwood in April.

Another video shows a pregnant woman being called a "fat slut" after she asked a Perth train passenger to move her bags so she could sit down.

In November 2012 a French woman on a Melbourne bus was told to "speak English or die" by a man who also threatened to cut her breasts off.

All three videos were posted on YouTube and triggered a backlash on social media.
