Gold Coast Suns consider tagging Selwood

Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade says he'll consider using a tagger to hamper Geelong's star-studded midfield.

Geelong skipper Joel Selwood faces the prospect of being hit with a tight tag for the second straight AFL match.

Collingwood's Levi Greenwood limited Selwood to just 17 possessions in last weekend's upset victory by the Magpies, prompting speculation that Gold Coast could go with a similar tactic in Saturday's match at Metricon Stadium.

"I've got no doubt there's a place for it (tagging) but it has definitely waned a little bit over the last few years... stuff like that always come back at some stage," Suns coach Rodney Eade said on Thursday.

Selwood was the dominant figure in the Cats' round-five win over St. Kilda, winning 15 of his 43 disposals and kicking a momentum-shifting goal in the third quarter.

If Eade decides to tag the Cats' skipper, his options include former Docker Michael Barlow, Jesse Lonergan and Alex Sexton.

"Some coaches have historically said the person who you might want to tag could have a bad day anyway, so we'll wait and see (before using a tagger)," Eade said.

Gold Coast welcome back co-captain Steven May, who has missed the last two matches with a hamstring injury.

Defender Jarrod Harbrow said the return of the powerhouse key defender would be a huge boost for the Suns.

"He competes so hard, he doesn't like getting beaten and is super competitive," Harbrow said.

"He prepares well and trains hard, if he does his job it goes a long way in helping the team."

The Suns have not won a single match in the past three years when May has been absent.
