Police are investigating the "appropriateness" of their response to late Gold Coast mother Tara Brown's request for a domestic violence order.
The 24-year-old died in hospital on Wednesday night, a day after being violently beaten while trapped in her crashed car at Molendinar.
The brutal attack allegedly came at the hands of her former partner, ex-Bandidos bikie gang member Lionel Patea.

He will be charged with her murder.
It has been revealed Ms Brown last week had sought help from police to leave Patea.
But officers at the Southport station reportedly couldn't offer any advice.
The "appropriateness" of that response has now been reported to the force's ethical standards command.
"(It) is currently being investigated by a senior officer," a police statement said.
While a spokesman for the police minister said the case was an "operational matter" for QPS, Jo-Ann Miller earlier told the ABC the state government was devoted to stamping out domestic violence in the state.
Meanwhile, those who knew Ms Brown have taken to social media to mourn the young mother.
"Since you were the little girl that sat on the driveway and ran across our road to play we always said you looked angelic," one wrote.
"Rest peacefully baby girl."
An online fundraising page has also raised more than $10,000 for her family.
Patea is in hospital after suffering self-inflicted stab wounds prior to his arrest on Tuesday.
He'll appear at Southport Magistrates Court next month.
The incident happened after Ms Brown dropped the couple's young daughter off at child care.
Police allege Patea ran Ms Brown's car off the road, then used a cast-iron fire hydrant cover to bash her repeatedly in the face while she was trapped in the damaged vehicle.
