Southeast Queensland has been hit by severe storms with large hailstorms and destructive winds.

Large hailstones and destructive winds are pounding parts of southeast Queensland.

Severe storms with golf ball-sized hail have hit Ipswich and south Brisbane, including Richlands where Labor leader Annastacia Palaszczuk is holding her state election evening function, at the Queensland Lions Soccer Club.

The Bureau of Meteorology says the storms are moving northeast and are expected to hit Brisbane's bayside by 6pm (AEST).
