New Zealand golfer Lydia Ko will consider surgery on her wrist in September, potentially ruling her out of golf for two months.

The world No.3 is battling increasing pain from a cyst on her left wrist, which was drained recently.

She decided against competing in this week's LPGA Tour event in Portland to rest the injury ahead of the final major of the year, the Evian Championship in France from September 11-14.

The 17-year-old also plans to contest a tournament in Alabama a week later before weighing up the merits of surgery ahead of six tournaments in Asia in October and November.

Recovery time is estimated to be at least two months.

Ko's agent Michael Yim told the Golfweek.com website that she underwent a MRI scan on the wrist this week and took further advice from Florida-based LPGA Tour medical director Bruce Thomas.

Yim says Ko has dealt with pain from the cyst for years - the result of diligent practice - but it has grown in recent weeks.
