Golfer Webb storms to finish 5th

Swede Anna Nordqvist has won the LPGA Classic, with Australian Karrie Webb storming home to finish fifth.

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, New Jersey, May 31 AP/AAP - Australian Karrie Webb has stormed home with the equal second-lowest final round of the day to finish in a tie for fifth at the LPGA Classic in New Jersey.

Swede Anna Nordqvist birdied the 16th and 17th holes to break out of the pack and win by a shot, closing with a two-under 69 for a three-round total of eight-under 205.

Webb mastered the windy conditions on Sunday, carding a five-under 66 to be tied for fifth at 209.

The only lower round on Sunday was American Austin Ernst's 64, which lifted her level with Webb.

Sarah Kemp was the next best-placed Australian in a tie for 16th at 211, two shots clear of teen sensation Minjee Lee, who won her maiden LPGA title two weeks ago at the Kingsmill Championship.

Nordqvist made a 12-foot birdie putt at the par-4 16th to break a tie with France's Christel Boeljon and get to eight-under. Nordqvist hit her tee shot on the short par-3 17th to 8 feet to the left of the hole and drained that putt as well to move to two strokes in front.

With Boeljon, winless in five years on the LPGA Tour, missing an 18-inch birdie putt at the 18th while playing in the group ahead, Nordqvist was not hurt by a bogey at the last.

Boeljon was a career-best second after a 68.

Second-round leader Morgan Pressel, who fell out of the lead following a bogey-double bogey stretch on the front nine, tied for third at five-under after a 73.

American Kelly Shon got within a stroke of the lead, but a tough finish dropped her to a 70 and a tie with Pressel.
