Sydney great Adam Goodes will head into retirement with a likely $1000 fine after being charged with misconduct by the AFL match review panel.
But Hawthorn captain Luke Hodge has avoided sanction after being scrutinised for a high hit in his side's semi-final win.
Goodes, charged with a first offence of misconduct, can accept a $1000 fine with an early guilty plea for his tangle with North Melbourne's Scott Thompson in Saturday night's AFL semi-final.
Goodes kicked out at Thompson but made minimal contact during the third quarter of the match. He retired post-game.
Goodes was the only player cited by the panel from the weekend's semi-finals, though Hodge and Adelaide's Scott Thompson were investigated.
Hodge's high hit on Crow Brodie Smith was cleared by the match review panel, which deemed the Adelaide defender lost his balance just before impact.
"It was the view of the panel the high contact was caused by circumstances outside Hodge's control and the incident was dealt with at the time on the field with a free kick," the panel said in a statement on Monday.
Adelaide onballer Thompson's arm-pinning tackle on Hodge in Friday night's semi-final was also examined but he was cleared of any wrongdoing.
