Goodes cops one-game Super Rugby ban

Hurricanes prop Reggie Goodes has been suspended for a week for a charge that ended the Super Rugby season of Chiefs lock Michael Allardice.

Hurricanes prop Reggie Goodes has been handed a one-match ban for a dangerous charge which ended the Super Rugby season for Chiefs lock Michael Allardice.

Allardice ruptured the medial ligament in his left knee, sidelining him for about eight weeks, after Goodes attempted a cleanout at a ruck during the Hurricanes' 22-18 win on Saturday.

Goodes pleaded guilty to the charge and SANZAR judicial officer Robert Stelzner suspended him for a week.

He said Goodes had intended to make contact with Allardice around his shoulder, but he missed after the lock moved.

"This resulted in Goodes missing his intended point of contact on the upper body of his opponent and instead made contact with the knee," he said.

He said the serious injury suffered by Allardice may have been aggravated by Hurricanes prop Ben Frank who was trying to clean out at the same time from the other side.

Stelzner said the offence was not intentional or deliberate and there was not a reckless disregard for Allardice's safety.
