A body surrounded by police in Melbourne's southeast has been captured on Google Street View.

The image shows a police van and three officers standing near a white object on the footpath in Endeavour Hills, believed to be a white sheet covering a body.

An anonymous caller to 3AW's Rumour File mentioned the body on Thursday.

"It appears Google ... has failed to take due care and attention when filtering and blurring images on their street view," the caller said.

The image has since been censored.

Police say they were called to a non-suspicious death in Endeavour Hills in July.

A Google spokesperson says Street View uses imagery taken on public roads and was no different to what a member of the public would see while walking down the same street.

"Sometimes we capture images that are sensitive or inappropriate, so we have tools you can use to flag and get them removed," Google said in a statement to AAP.
