Google to donate $US5.5M to help refugees

Google says its charitable arm will donate another $US5.5 million to groups helping the refugees pouring into Europe.

Google's charitable arm is pledging to donate an additional $US5.5 million ($A7.70 million) to groups trying to help the thousands of refugees pouring into Europe.

The commitment, announced on Tuesday by Google.org, expands upon a $US1.1 million donation to several humanitarian relief funds earlier in September.

Google is trying to spur more people to contribute to the cause with this campaign. The company is matching up to $US5.5 million in donations made by individuals through http://google.com/refugeerelief

Donors can give their money to one of four groups: The International Rescue Committee, Doctors Without Borders, UN High Commission for Refugees, or Save The Children.

Google ended June with $US70 billion in cash.
