Gold Coast fullback Michael Gordon has backed dropped five-eighth Kane Elgey to rise again, describing him as a brilliant player down on confidence.
The No.6 has been axed to the Queensland Cup ahead of Saturday's home clash with Cronulla with Bryce Cartwright named as his replacement.
Gordon said Elgey had the backing of his teammates after a difficult start to the season.
"He's got all the tools, he's a brilliant player," Gordon said.
"Maybe it's a confidence thing for him; but we're a whole team and we're all behind Kane no matter what."
Elgey is off contract at season's end and has struggled with multiple long-term injuries since bursting onto the scene in a solid 2015 rookie season.
The Gold Coast product boasts a 75 per cent tackle efficiency rating this season and has laid on four try assists and forced two drop outs in seven games this season.
Crucially he played key roles in at least two of the Titans' three wins this season.
But Brennan said Elgey needed to improve defensively but also provide better leadership in attack, with confidence gained in reserve grade hopefully leading to a recall later this year.
Gordon knows the Titans' problems extend deeper than their No.6, with the club leaking more points (197) than any other team this season.
"Yeah it is (hard to cop)," the former Sydney Rooster said.
"While we've won a few games there's been some big flaws in our defence we've tried to identify.
"It's the fundamentals we're not doing and oh yeah, (it's frustrating) and hard to get any rhythm."
