After claiming low amateur honours at the Masters, Oliver Goss has his sights on the same result at the US Open.
The 20-year-old West Australian is looking to be the first player since Matt Kuchar in 1998 to claim low amateur honours at the first two majors of the year.
Goss clinched the title at the Masters on Friday when he was the only amateur to make the cut, his first goal at Pinehurst in just his second major.
"I am really excited, maybe too excited," Goss told AAP.
"Low amateur would be a really great achievement. But just like the Masters I don't want to put a number on the week and try to shoot this or that, I just want to come in and play as well as I can and see what happens.
"My game is coming along nicely and I'm getting some great work in with my coach and feeling good."
After a handful of practice rounds around the tough layout Goss knuckled down into extra training, knowing it will take a big performance to replicate Kuchar's efforts.
The U.S. Amateur runner-up suffered a severe throat infection in the lead up ensuring his practice time was limited, but he wasn't shirking away from the hard work.
"It's a US Open and you can't expect anything less than a tough set up," he said.
"It's tough in all areas just like Augusta, but in a different sense.
"You have to be prepared in all aspects of your game. I've had a pretty good look at the course and I have a lot to learn in just a couple of days."
Goss, who is still undecided on whether to turn professional after the event, has drawn an all-Australian pairing for the opening two rounds.
He is set to play with Aaron Baddeley and Aron Price.
"It's going to be really fun," he said.
"There are a lot of Aussies out on tour and I know they take care of each other so it will be nice to have some familiar accents going around the first few days."
