Goulding ban 'unjust' but BA won't appeal

Basketball Australia's chief executive Anthony Moore has revealed why the organisation won't appeal against Boomers player Chris Goulding's one-match ban.

Basketball Australia chief executive Anthony Moore has revealed why the organisation won't appeal against Chris Goulding's one-match ban, despite labelling it "excessive and unfair".

Goulding was one of three Boomers handed bans by the sport's governing body FIBA after a brawl with the Philippines in their World Cup qualifier in Manila in July.

Despite disagreeing with the sanction handed down to the Boomers' sharpshooter, Basketball Australia on Tuesday announced it would not appeal and instead take the matter up privately with FIBA.

"We look at the incident that occurred where Chris is under the basket with 20 people on top of him ... to actually then get a one-game ban, we just thought that was unjust and extremely unfair," Moore told SEN on Wednesday.

"The private part is something that we've opted to do because it's our view and the legal advice that we went through and considered was the probability of success in overturning the sanctions was very, very low."

Daniel Kickert (five games) and NBA star Thon Maker (three matches) also received bans for their roles in the melee, which also saw Basketball Australia slapped with a $A135,000 fine.
