Govt dangles RET bait, Labor not biting

An impasse over the renewable energy target continues, with the government offering a slightly sweetened deal that Labor has quickly rejected.

The Abbott government is prepared to move a little on a new renewable energy target, but not enough to win the support of Labor.

Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane has upped the government's offer to 32,000 gigawatts, conceding an additional 1000 gigawatt hours of energy in the target for large-scale renewables like wind warms.

Before the two parties even meet to discuss the latest offer, opposition environment spokesman Mark Butler labelled it "another waste of time and paper".
