Govt funds cheaper Botox for migraine

The federal government has made it cheaper to get Botox injections for migraine treatment.

The government has made it cheaper to have Botox injections to treat migraines.

The midyear budget update released on Tuesday showed Botox injections for adult patients with migraines were listed on the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) as well as the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.

The procedure for treating migraines requires injections of the toxin to the head and neck.

The listing of Botox is part of a $15.8 million plan over four years to add a number of procedures to the MBS.

Other new items included treatments for melanoma and lung cancer and diagnostic services for gastrointestinal bleeding.
