Govt funds medical researchers with $200m

Hundreds of Australian studies seeking to make medical discoveries will receive part of $200 million in federal government funding.

A study aimed at preventing stillbirths in Australia is among hundreds of medical research projects that will receive a share of $200 million in federal government funding.

The government has announced grants for 320 projects, some of which are focused on obesity, mental health and cardiovascular disease.

"These projects will save and protect lives," Health Minister Greg Hunt said on Monday.
