Govt on mission to lift wages: Morrison

Treasurer Scott Morrison has used the last question time before budget day to spruik the government's achievements of the past year.

Scott Treasurer has promised the 2017 budget will continue the task of positioning the nation for future prosperity, with a mission to support Australians to earn more.

The treasurer used the last parliamentary question time before budget day on May 9 to spruik the Turnbull government's achievements in the past year.

He said the 2016 budget was an economic plan for jobs and growth to support the nation through the substantial changes that are taking place in the country.

"While there are many regions in this country that are doing extremely well ... we also know there are other parts of the country with an old industrial base which are struggling," he told MPs on Thursday.

"Our mission is to support Australians to earn more."

Since the 2016 budget, the government had delivered some $25 billion in budget improvement measures that are taking the nation's finances towards balance.

He said when a government is disciplined it can deliver affordable child care without raiding the finances of taxpayers, provide $2.9 billion in hospital funding to the states and territories, and work towards ensuring the national disability insurance scheme is properly funded.

"That $25 billion in budget improvement measures, barely got any assistance from those opposite," he said.

"They have worked against us every single occasion, where we have sought to bring the budget back to balance. The Labor Party are an AAA threat to our AAA economy."
