Govt proposes new ombudsman for students

The federal government has introduced new legislation to establish a VET Student Loans Ombudsman to investigate complaints and compliance issues.

Students who have issues with training providers could soon take their complaints to an independent umpire.

The federal government on Thursday introduced draft laws to parliament that establish a new VET Student Loans Ombudsman, who would be able to investigate and resolve student complaints and compliance issues of training organisations.

This will give students confidence that their complains will be treated seriously, Education Minister Simon Birmingham said in a statement.
