Govt to examine TV and radio licence fees

Communications Minister Mitch Fifield says things have changed "a heck of a lot" since licence fees for radio and TV were introduced.

Communications Minister Mitch Fifield will examine licence fees for radio and TV.

Senator Fifield says the fees were introduced in the 1950s as a "super profits tax" back when print, radio and TV were the only players in the media.

"Obviously things have changed a heck of a lot since then," he told Sky News on Monday, adding the fees were halved in 2013.
