Govt to give $200 million in dental health

The federal government will provide $200 million in dental health funding in Tuesday's budget, but Labor says that's just reversing a cut from last year.

Labor has labelled reports that the Abbott government intends to spend $200 million in dental health care as a "cruel hoax".

Fairfax media reported that Health Care Minister Sussan Ley will announce $200 million in dental health funding for the state and territories in Tuesday's budget to "allow for reform work to be undertaken over the next 12 months".

But Labor's health spokeswoman Catherine King said in last year's budget the government cut $200 million in 2014/15 from a scheme to help adults with poor dental heath and $390 million in total.
